The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations Executive and Staff extend their deepest condolences to the family of Leonard Michael Hardlotte and the Lac La Ronge Indian Band and the community of Stanley Mission. Mr. Hardlotte passed away Friday, December 16, 2016.
Leonard Hardlotte dedicated his life to defending and protecting Inherent and Treaty rights. Mr. Hardlotte served the Prince Albert Grand Council as a Vice Chief. He worked tirelessly on the 1930 Natural Resources Transfer Agreement arguing that First Nations did not relinquish title to natural resources. Mr. Hardlotte was a strong advocate for northern trappers through his involvement with the Northern Saskatchewan Trappers Association. His passion for outdoor life comes from spending long days commercial fishing and trapping with his dad, during his childhood.
As a young man, Mr. Hardlotte enlisted in the US Marine Corps and later was part of the Calgary Stampede Wrestling Network where he was known as “Crazy Blood” He will be remembered for his laugh as he loved to share stories with his friends and colleagues. He will be remembered as a good man who worked hard for his people to protect their traditional lifestyle of hunting, trapping, fishing and gathering.
