A man from Island Lake First Nation is facing a dozen new charges after trying to escape from police in Cold Lake, Alberta.

On Wednesday afternoon, RCMP received a call about a stolen vehicle located in a grocery store parking lot.

The driver tried to get away, and Mounties say he rammed two of their vehicles.

A short, low-speed pursuit followed, and led to the arrest of 27-year-old Loewen Wolfe.

He was already wanted on other charges.

The new charges against him include, assaulting a police officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and possession of crystal meth and cocaine.

Loewen is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear in Cold Lake Provincial Court next week.
