An inmate at Saskatoon’s Regional Psychiatric Centre was pronounced dead in Saskatoon hospital around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Correctional Service Canada (CSC) says the family of Thomas Henry Settee, 73, has been notified of his death.

CSC is not revealing any details on what condition Settee was in when he was found before being transported to hospital.

His offences date back to 1968, where he was convicted of non-capital murder, assault, and possession of property obtained by robbery and crime.

Non-capital murder is a term that existed between 1961 and 1976 when capital murder was punishable by death. After the death penalty was abolished, the terms “capital” and “non-capital” murder were replaced with “first” and “second-degree” murder.

Officials say they will review the circumstances of the incident.
