Canada’s auditor general is taking aim at the federal government over its handling of Indigenous issues in his latest report released today.

Everything from corrections to ongoing court battles over land claims are outlined in his report.

On the issue of offenders, Michael Ferguson says Indigenous offenders are much less likely to be released on parole, and when they do get out, there is often no support.

On land claim settlements, Ferguson found the federal government’s efforts to streamline the process actually made it worse, resulting in funding cuts, less shared information and more barriers.

He described the situation as beyond unacceptable.
