Late on Sunday evening, the La Ronge Ice Wolves Board of Directors relieved Head Coach and GM Shawn Martin of his duties.

“Looking over the season a little bit, the board felt that the organization wasn’t quite where it needed to be,” said Ice Wolves President, Mike Bell. “The board felt that change was in order.”

Bell adds that the current group of assistant coaches will take over duties for now, but he says they are actively looking for a new head coach and general manager.

“We’d like to thank Shawn (Martin) for his passion and dedication for the last four years,” said Bell. “We wish Shawn all the success in his future endeavors.”

Martin replaced Bob Beatty, who left the SJHL for the BCHL’s Cowichan Valley Capitals shortly after the 2012-2013 season ended.

During Martin’s tenure, he compiled a 69-96-10-10 record. The Ice Wolves stumbled out of the gate this season, posting a 2-12-0-1 record through 15 games.

Meantime, more developments continue to unfold with this story. Associate Coach and Assistant GM, Mat Hehr, has resigned from his post with the La Ronge Ice Wolves.
