Cameco’s Hockey Day in Saskatchewan is taking its show to the north in the New Year.
Pinehouse and Shellbrook have been selected to host the event, which runs the third week of January.
“Shellbrook came in with just a very, very good strong application and Pinehouse had been interested in the past two,” said Jonathan Huntington with Cameco.
“It’s a chance to do two Cameco Hockey Days on the same weekend, but they’ll look a little bit different. Shellbrook will be obviously a great host with an SJHL game and two Midget AAA games. Pinehouse will focus more on youth development and skill development for their 90 minor hockey league players and they’ll also have two Midget AAA games too.”
Pinehouse and Shellbrook will also welcome NHL hall of famer, Bryan Trottier.
“(Trottier will) start the weekend in Shellbrook on the Friday night with a fundraising dinner and then he’s going to come to Pinehouse as well,” said Huntington.
“Bryan is just an outstanding human being, he’s just such a great role model.”
The community of Shellbrook is hoping to raise money for a new ice plant during the Hockey Day festivities.
