SaskTel has announced an agreement that will bring dedicated internet over fibre to 80 Saskatchewan First Nations offices and 10 Tribal Council offices.

The agreement involves Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada, the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations and all Saskatchewan First Nations and Tribal Councils.

The fibre will allow each office to use web and video conferencing, instant messaging, and desktop and data sharing.

Offices will also be able to access data centre services and retrieve electronic documents and records.

These capabilities will be extended to locations in northern Saskatchewan.

INAC is providing all of the $2.3 million required for this project which is expected to be complete by the end of 2018.
