Saskatchewan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is up a half a point from August to 6.8%, slightly below the national average of 7%.

The September jobless numbers were released this morning by statistics Canada.

Aboriginal unemployment stood at 14.5% last month, a drop of nearly 1% from August.

The off reserve First Nations unemployment rate was nearly 22%, representing a drop of more than 2% from August while the Metis unemployment rate for September was 10%,  a drop of .2% from August.

Looking at the year over year numbers, Aboriginal unemployment increased nearly  a full percent from  13.7 to 14.5%.

First Nations off reserve unemployment went up marginally from 21.3% to 21.7%. While Metis unemployment increased 1.3% from 8.8% to 10.1%

The non-aboriginal unemployment rate in Saskatchewan is 5.5%.
