Over $60,000 has been raised for an RCMP officer who lost his wife during childbirth.

Mark Burnett and his wife Megan went into the hospital this past Friday to deliver their second child, but complications quickly arose.

Sadly, Megan died during the process. The newborn baby was flown to hospital in Saskatoon where she is fighting for her life.

Friends of Mark and Megan have set up a GoFundMe page to support the family during the difficult time with nearly $63,000 being raised already.

According to the page, Mark’s friends want to stand beside him as he is facing difficult days in neonatal care in the next few weeks. They also want to show that his family and friends are there to support him as he faces the task of raising two daughters alone, three-year-old Brynlee and the newly born Autumn Desiree.

Mark previously served at the Loon Lake RCMP detachment before he was transferred to Nipawin.

He has been a member of the RCMP for eight years.
