The RCMP is having discussions about security arrangements at the La Ronge Health Centre following an alleged sexual assault there.

A 20-year-old man from the La Ronge area is facing charges — including sexual assault and resisting arrest — after a 46-year-old female patient was allegedly assaulted in a hospital room.

It happened shortly before 11 p.m. on July 25, and the suspect was still on scene when police arrived.

There was a brief struggle while the suspect was being apprehended, but no one was hurt.

La Ronge RCMP Staff Sergeant Richard Price says he has been involved in follow-up conversations with the local health region since the alleged incident.

“I was asked to attend a follow-up meeting within a short time period after this had ocured and we did discuss a variety of different ideas in regards to prevention and keeping this type of incident from being able to occur again,” he said.

The suspect’s name is not being released at this time. He was released from custody with conditions this past Monday.

The woman who was attacked has been referred to Victims Services, Price said.
