Two designs have been unveiled for a proposed long-term care facility in La Ronge.

A group of over 50 individuals from around the health region recently spent a week-long event coming up with two different design plans for the 80-bed facility.

“This facility meets a vital need in the community,” said Mamawetan Churchill River Health Region CEO Andrew McLetchie. “In the north, there is a limited number of senior housing options, and this facility will go a long way to meet that need.”

The two designs are on display for the public’s input in La Ronge on Wednesday and will be on display again next week.

Mamawetan Churchill River Health Region CEO Andrew McLetchie says this public input is vital.

“We want the space within the long-term care facility to be home-like, we want it to reflect what people want to have in a facility where their loved ones were or they themselves were.”

McLetchie says the two design process will give them options on the final design.

“We anticipate the next step will pull out the better aspect of both and the final design will be a combination of the two.”

Once the final design is chosen, it will be passed onto architects to put the plans into place.

Given that this facility is very early in the planning process, McLetchie says it will be a couple years before the facility will be open to the public.

Early estimates put the cost of the long-term care facility between 40-50 million dollars.
