The Chief Executive Officer of the First Nations Bank of Canada will be receiving an honourary degree from the University of Saskatchewan.

Keith Martell, a member of the Waterhen Lake First Nation, graduated from the U of S in 1985 and went on to become one of the founders of Canada’s first independent Aboriginal bank.

Martell will be one of six individuals granted an honourary degree on June 1 at the university’s spring convocation.

The banking CEO will receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree for his influence in the banking industry.

Martell says he believes the education he received at the university was critical to his success.
