Police are on the lookout for three suspects after a shooting at the Peepeekisis First Nation.

Members of the File Hills First Nations Police Service and the RCMP were called to a home on the reserve shortly before 2 a.m. today.

When officers arrived they found a 29 year old man with a gunshot wound.

The victim was transported by ambulance to the hospital in Fort Qu’Appelle, and then later to Regina and reported to be in stable condition.

Investigators say it appears three people forced their way into the home and after an altercation, shots were fired.

The three suspects escaped on foot and a search involving a police canine failed to locate them.

There were several people in the house at the time, including a six-year-old child who was asleep in a bedroom.

The incident has been very upsetting for other residents of the First Nation.

The chief and council called an emergency meeting today to discuss the shooting and the growing problem of violence.

The local school was placed on lockdown status for the day.

The investigation is on-going.
