Delores Stevenson holds a photo of family member Nadine Machiskinic

It has now been almost 18 months, and a Regina family is still waiting for the results of a coroner’s report into the death of Nadine Machiskinic.

The 29-year-old aboriginal woman fell to her death down the laundry chute of a Regina hotel in January of 2015.

For her aunt Delores Stevenson, the wait for answers is excruciating. She says there are many questions about how her niece got into the laundry chute on the tenth floor of the hotel and fell about 100 feet to her death.

In January of this year, Stevenson and other family members staged a protest and march from the police station to the hotel to mark the one year anniversary of the death. She was told at that time, answers would be coming in a few weeks. Months later, she is still waiting.

“I was told that it should be ready by mid-February but I called them in mid-February and got the same response,” she said.  “I called them again in March and got the same response. I called them again yesterday and got the same response.”

The coroner’s report will list the cause of death as well as provide toxicology results.

Regina police do not believe foul play was involved in the death, but they recently released the photos of two men who were in the hotel at the time of the incident.

Stevenson acknowledges it’s good to know police are still looking for information and that gives her some hope.

“That does actually, that gives me some hope that somebody might actually have some information,” she said.  “But then again you can’t make out the faces of the men on those pictures.”

The family has also filed a lawsuit against the hotel. The Merchant law group is representing them in their claim of negligence against the Delta.
