Prince Albert showed off a wide range of cultural traditions this weekend at its second-ever multicultural powwow.

The Big River Cree drummers, along with First Nations, Highland and Ukrainian dancers were among those to showcase their talents at the Senator Allan Bird Memorial Gym on Saturday.

At the inaugural event, Elder Stuart Amyotte spoke of the vision he had more than a decade ago. He believes cross-cultural misunderstandings lead to the kind of racism he was subject to as a boy.

Growing up, Amyotte said he was subject to beatings because he was the only aboriginal kid in his school.

With the powwow now in its second year, partnerships in Prince Albert have continued to play a huge role.

Groups like the Friendship Centre, Northern Lights Casino, and Multicultural Council of Saskatchewan are among the sponsors.
