Environment and Climate Change Canada says a Saskatchewan First Nation has been fined $100,000 for failing to comply with an order regarding a gas station.
The department says the Kawacatoose First Nation pleaded guilty last October in Saskatchewan Provincial Court for failing to comply with an environmental protection compliance order.
The order directed the First Nation to provide an emergency plan and inspection records, as well as implement a product transfer area designed to contain spills at a gas station that it owned and operated.
The department says the $100,000 fine is a mandatory minimum, and is to be paid in $20,000 installments with the final payment due before April 2021.
