A suspect has been arrested more than a month after a Saskatoon fight that killed a La Loche man.

On Wednesday, police zoned in on Alberta as a possible hiding spot for suspect, 20-year-old Miguel Gomez. He was wanted on a Canada-wide Warrant for the April 16 stabbing and was arrested in Edmonton.

The charges against Gomez stem from a police call to a fight in the Sutherland area early in the morning.

Two stabbing victims – an 18-year-old man and a 22-year-old – were rushed to hospital. The older of the two died soon after.

The Canadian Press has identified that victim who died as Matthew Herman, who was visiting Saskatoon from La Loche at the time.

The other victim was treated for his stab wounds and released.

The people of La Loche are still paying tribute to Herman, who was an avid hockey player. Community members recently used hockey sticks to create a grave fence in Herman’s memory.

Family have posted a video on Facebook in his memory. It can be viewed here
