The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations is calling on Indigenous voters to make their voice heard in the upcoming provincial election.

FSIN Chief Bobby Cameron is urging every First Nation and Metis voter in the province to get out and cast a ballot.

“I encourage everybody to really get out there and make our voices heard and make our FSIN organization stronger and a more united voice,” says Chief Cameron.

FSIN Chief Bobby Cameron says First Nation and Metis voters make up almost 25 per cent of the population and he says just like any other group in the province they want to be included in the political dialogue.

“We have to be and we must be a part of the equation.”

The FSIN Chief says while many on-reserve responsibilities fall on the federal government there are still many things to be addressed provincially.

Chief Cameron says issues like child and family services, education and housing can all be addressed on the provincial level.

“We all have one goal, we want our children to have equal opportunity to have a better quality of life,” says Cameron. “We still live in these provinces and we still have to have good relationships with whoever gets elected on Monday.”

While Chief Cameron does say he would have liked to see more discussion on Indigenous issues during the campaign, he does expect a record turnout of Indigenous voters just like the federal election in October.
