Saskatchewan’s two northern MLAs will play prominent roles in the NDP opposition when the new sitting of the legislature begins next month.

On Thursday, Opposition leader Trent Wotherspoon unveiled the critic roles and duties for the ten member opposition team.

Buckley Belanger was named deputy leader, while Doyle Vermette is the party whip.  Both have also been given numerous critic responsibilities.

Wotherspoon says the team is ready to get back to business and he is proud to have Buckley Belanger as his deputy leader.

“He is the longest-serving aboriginal MLA in Saskatchewan’s history, he said.  “Belanger has a keen sense of what is important to Saskatchewan people, he is committed to building relationships and inclusion of First Nations and Metis people across the province and he has a perspective certainly from the far, far north.”

The new session of the legislature will open with a speech from the Throne May 17th, followed by a budget, no later than June 1.
