The 2016 Census is just around the corner and officials from Statistics Canada are seeking help in First Nation communities.
After a 10 year absence the mandatory long-form census is also back as enumeration efforts get underway.
Lorne Anderson, Western Regional Director for Statistics Canada says the Census is a vital process to everyone in Canada.
“The census itself is done every 5 years and the intent is to gather as much data as possible to produce quality information that all levels of government and First Nation communities can use to make decisions on what impacts them,” says Anderson.
First Nation communities across the province should be expecting officials from the 2016 Census to arrive at their doorsteps in the upcoming weeks.
Anderson says he hopes the enumerators will be welcomed into the communities.
“We hope everyone is able to give us complete answers,” says Anderson. “We have people starting as early as next week and in First Nations communities and we are actually looking for people to join our team.”
“The more people from local communities that can join our team the better.”
Anderson says they are hiring for two different positions, one as a team leader and the other as an enumerator who actually conducts the census interview.
