Cameco is making one last push to get northern Saskatchewan women to apply for the Touchdown for Dreams program.

The program is a partnership with the Roughriders that grants seven to 10 wishes each year to women with a life-threatening cancer diagnosis.

Jonathan Huntington with Cameco says they want equal representation from across the province in the women who are chosen.

“In the past we’ve had a stronger representation of nominations come from southern Saskatchewan, and that’s from Saskatoon south. We’ve had nominations come in from northern Saskatchewan but we haven’t been able yet to grant a recipient into the program from northern Saskatchewan,” he said.

He emphasizes that the one-page application form is very easy to follow. It can be filled out not just by the women with the cancer diagnosis, but by their family, friends, coworkers, or health-care workers.

The dream requests could by anything from a summer vacation to a kitchen or basement renovation. The wishes are valued between $5,000 and $7,500.

Huntington says it’s a rewarding program to work with.

“I can tell you after four years of being in this program, it is absolutely spectacular. You deal with women who are obviously facing a very tough diagnosis of cancer but they receive a dream come true,” he said.

On top of getting their dream granted, the women get to spend a day with the Roughriders and other women who have gone through cancer treatment during the summer.
