The vice chief of the Meadow Lake Tribal Council has entered provincial politics.

Dwayne Lasas has secured the NDP nomination for the riding of Meadow Lake.

Lasas will face the Saskatchewan Party incumbent, Jeremy Harrison, in next spring’s provincial election.

Lasas has worked as an addictions counselor and in the detox unit for the Metis Addictions Council of Saskatchewan Inc., and at the Waterhen First Nation, where he also served on the council from 2005 to 2010.

He serves as the Meadow Lake Tribal Council’s expert on sustainable forestry, and sits as the Saskatchewan representative at the National Aboriginal Forestry Association.

Lasas frequently appeared in small roles on CBC’s drama series North of 60, and is currently a board member for the Saskatchewan Indian Cultural Centre.
