A founding member of the “Idle No More” movement will receive special recognition and an award during the fall convocation ceremonies at the University of Saskatchewan on Saturday.

Alexandria Wilson will receive a distinction award for her outreach and public service work for drawing attention to missing and murdered aboriginal women.

Dr. Wilson is an associate professor at the U of S and the director of the Aboriginal Education Research Centre at the university.

In addition to her work on behalf of missing and murdered aboriginal women,   Wilson is involved in research and policies dealing with HIV and AIDs in the aboriginal community.

Nearly a thousand students will graduate during Saturday’s convocation ceremonies. As well, nine awards and honorary degrees will be handed out.
