Prince Albert police launched an investigation into child neglect after officers raised concerns over the weekend.

The officers were dispatched to home in Prince Albert’s West Flat just before 1 a.m. on Saturday morning after a call about a break and enter. Instead, what they found inside were children who were not properly being looked after, according to a news release by Prince Albert Police Service.

A 41-year-old woman and 37-year-old man were arrested after a joint investigation by the Prince Albert Police Child Protection Unit, Patrol Service members, Mobile Crisis, Indian Child and Family Services, and Social Services.

They face charges that include assault, child abandonment, criminal negligence causing bodily harm, and failing to provide the necessities of life to a child under the age of 16 years.

The man and woman were released in front of a Justice of the Peace and will be back in court on October 22.
