Instead of heading to trial for a Pelican Narrow’s man death in September of 2014, the accused entered his pleas and received his sentence.

Adam Terrance Sewap had been charged with second-degree murder in the death of a 29-year-old man.

At the time, Pelican Narrows RCMP reported they’d been called to a fight around midnight on Sept. 8, 2014.

The victim was rushed to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Sewap had been scheduled for a preliminary hearing this summer, but instead opted to enter a guilty plea to the lesser charge of manslaughter, said his lawyer Mary McAuley.

A judge at Pelican Narrows Provincial Court accepted the sentencing request of eight years less time served, which was a joint submission from defencse and the Crown prosecutor.

The penitentiary sentence for Sewap comes along with a DNA order and a firearms prohibition for life.

The name of the victim was not released at the request of the family.
