The FSIN is calling on the province for an immediate stop to the proposed Kutwawagan Creek Water Diversion project for fear of environmental damage.
The project would divert water from entering Big Quill Lake by isolating the Kutawagan Creek region providing an outlet towards Last Mountain Lake.
FSIN Vice-Chief Bobby Cameron says the potential is there to cause salt water flooding to lakes in the Qu’Appelle Valley.
“We’re absolutely against it, we’ve put a call out to the province to put an immediate stop to this project,” says Cameron. “We’ve got support from the non-First Nations folks who will be affected as well.”
Cameron says there is a meeting scheduled with the province in early October.
