The chief of the Buffalo River Dene Nation has been handed a six-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay a 100-dollar surcharge for assault.

Chief Eileen Morrison was scheduled to appear in provincial court in Dillon last week facing four charges.

Morrison entered a guilty plea to one count of assault and the three other charges were dropped.

The charges were laid after an incident in early 2014 when she was a band councillor.

Morrison was elected chief of the First Nation in February.
