A man from a Battlefords-area hamlet now faces charges after shots were fired in Onion Lake this week.

Todd William Rousseau, 44, was arrested after the RCMP responded to a call about a man with a gun on the First Nation. The RCMP reports he’s from Delmas.

His charges state he was drunk on a dry reserve and uttered threats.

He’s scheduled to be in Lloydminster court on Monday for reckless discharge of a firearm, along with many other gun-related counts.

According to a news release, RCMP officers tracked down a man on Onion Lake First Nation early Thursday morning, hours after reports of shots fired in the community.

The reports came in around 11 p.m. near the Onion Lake Bus Shop, which is less than a kilometre away from the community’s elementary school.

Further investigation led officers to believe a man was with the gun and alone in a house on the First Nation. The house was allegedly not his own.

Many hours later, around 3 a.m., the RCMP was alerted to a man matching the suspect’s description walking on Chief Taylor Road.

A short chase on foot followed, and officers took the man into custody.

No one was hurt in the incident.
