The beating death of a six-year-old on a Kahkewistahaw First Nation two years ago is now the subject of a lawsuit.

The parents of Lee Bonneau are suing the social services department for negligence.

The boy was in foster care at the time on the First Nation, which is near Kamsack.

He was beaten to death by a ten-year-old on in August of 2013.

Regina lawyer Tony Merchant is representing the family.

The suit asks the court to award substantial damages saying the parents have suffered by the betrayal at the hands of the department.

Social services issued a statement Friday morning, saying only that it will not comment on the matter as it is before the courts.

The suit was filed on Thursday.
