Radio listeners in Canada’s big cities may soon have a new Aboriginal voice to listen to.

The CRTC pulled the plug on the Aboriginal Voices Radio network for failure to comply with its licensing agreement, opening the door for the Canadian Association of Aboriginal Broadcasters.

National chairperson and MBC Radio CEO Deborah Charles says work is already underway to apply for the licence.

“The plan is to be granted those licences and have national radio talk show and current affairs programming, music and Aboriginal content right across the country.”

The CRTC pulled the AVR license citing five failures that include failing to provide audited financial statements, provide regular daily newscasts, provide program logs and file annual returns and reports.
