The residential school system Independent Adjudication Process (IAP) has begun scheduling hearings for unresolved claims.

This is in hopes of having the whole process wrapped up by next spring.

About 4,000 claims across the country are in the system, but have not yet been resolved — with 1,900 of these claims in Saskatchewan.

In the past week, Indian Residential Schools Adjudication Secretariat chief adjudicator Dan Shapiro encouraged people to come forward if their settlement process had become dormant.

Four hundred claimants have not been heard from for an extended period of time with 94 of them in Saskatchewan.
