Several paramedics were honoured with service awards Tuesday afternoon in Prince Albert.

The event helped kick off Paramedic Services Week in the city, which runs from May 24-30.

Trevor Dutchak CEO of Parkland Ambulance says it was great to see the paramedics honoured for their hard work.

“We are so proud of our staff for everything they do, so when they get recognized by their peers it makes us that much happier,” said Dutchak.  “These men and women work 52 weeks a year, so it is nice to honour them with one week during the year.”

Several paramedics were honoured with military service pins, star of life awards and exemplary service medals.

Tim May was one of five recipients of the Lieutenant Governor’s Military Service Pin for paramedics who have served in the military.  May says it’s nice to be recognized, but that’s not why he joined.

“I joined up to serve my country,” said May.  “I knew from my childhood that I was going to either serve my community, my province or my country and I started with country and now serve my community.”

A spokesperson for the City says they proclaimed this week as Paramedic Services Week to recognize the service these men and women provide to the community.
