Aboriginal Affairs Minister Bernard Valcourt has announced funding for the construction or renovation of 11 First Nations schools across the country.

Two of the schools are in Saskatchewan.

The Whitecap Dakota First Nation and the Flying Dust First Nation elementary schools will get renovation money.

The exact amount won’t be known until the projects are tendered.

In addition, Whitecap will get funding for an off-reserve school project in the City of Saskatoon.

Valcourt was on the Whitecap Dakota First Nation today to make the announcement.

Flying Dust Chief Richard Gladue says his band’s school will now be a Kindergarten to Grade 9 school.

Gladue credits previous leadership for getting the project started.

Four of the 11 projects announced today will be new schools.
