A group of grade six students from a southern Saskatchewan reserve were on a road trip today to learn more about residential school history.

The kids from Kawakatoose are visiting Muskowekwan First Nation and toured the building which was built in 1921, and once housed children from across the country.

Grade six teacher Lydia Sunchild says the students have also been working on a number of other projects as part of their history lessons.

“We have all of the work that they have been working on such as they made poems, pictures and for floow-up we wanted to gather everything and possibibly make it into a book and give it all to the community”.

Sunchild says as part of today’s visit, former residential school students were given a chance to share their stories.
