Closing arguments have wrapped up in the second degree murder trial of a Regina man accused of beating a toddler to death.

The lawyer for 34-year-old Adam Cyr methodically went through his case on Monday saying his client was framed by his former girlfriend Amanda Trevors.

She is the mother of two-year-old Natalia Shingoose who was found beaten to death in her bed on the morning of June 21, 2012.

Hrycan describes Trevors as manipulative, calculating and unspeakably cold.

He also suggests the real killer is Matthew Bennett, a close friend of Trevors who showed up at the family home at about 3 a.m. on the night in question to tell them their front door was wide open.

Hrycan also says drugs played a role in the crime.

The prosecution dismisses these suggestions.

James Fitz-Gerald says Adam Cyr caused the injuries, concealed evidence and opened the door of the house to make it look like someone broke in.

Fitz-Gerald also says Cyr is the only one who had the exclusive opportunity to cause the injuries to the child.

He told the jury Cyr lost his temper with the little girl, beat her to death in a fit of rage and then tried to cover up the crime.

On Tuesday, there will be more legal arguments in the absence of the jury.

On Wednesday morning, Justice Fred Kovatch will give his final instructions before the jury begins deliberations on the fate of Adam Cyr.
