A Cumberland House woman has filed an official complaint with the CRTC over what she feels is a lack of Sasktel service for northern Saskatchewan.

Renee Carriere says she had called Sasktel for service on January 7th, but they wouldn’t be able to help her until the 28th because there nearest representative was in Nipawin.

Sasktel did manage to complete the service on January 22nd.

Carriere said she is frustrated that there is no Sasktel employee closer to do the work.

“With a community of 2000 that is celebrated a 125 years of education, never has Sasktel trained a person to do this work,” said Carriere.  “Why can’t we have somebody trained here?  Even someone from the community can be on call, so our young people can job shadow and learn how to do this.”

A representative for Sasktel says they try to complete all service within 7 days.

“In this case due to some of the major installations occurring in the region it was taking up some of our resources, but once it came to our attention we looked into it and she was installed yesterday,” said Darcy McFarlane a Sasktel spokesperson.

McFarlane says there are over 500 locations for Sasktel service in the province, so it is difficult to find employees for every community.

“We do have a large number of communities that have employees,” said McFarlane.  “We serve Cumberland House out of Nipawin and Creghton with 3 out of Nipawin and 2 in Creighton.”
