A sexual assault involving a minor has resulted in a 3 year prison sentence for a Buffalo Narrows man.
Randy Joseph Clarke apologized for his actions at a sentencing hearing on Friday.
Clarke was found guilty of sexual assault involving a 15 year old girl stemming from an incident in North Battleford earlier this year.
During the sentencing hearing, the crown argued for a 4 year jail sentence based on the age of the victim and the long criminal history of the accused.
The defense asked for a lesser sentence arguing that Clarke’s actions were not forceful in nature and his criminal record had no history of sexual crime.
The judge took the weekend to consider the case and decided to side with the Crown as he handed out a 39 month jail sentence on Monday morning.
Clarke will spend 35 months of that sentence behind bars because he was credited with 4 months for time already served.
Along with the prison sentence, Clarke will also have a lifetime ban of firearms.
