A group of students from Uranium City will be amongst the thousands of youth attending the We Day conference in Saskatoon this Friday.

The seven students are in Grades 5 to 9 at Ben McIntyre School.

Grade 9 student Janine Naskathey says the group has been researching the motivational youth conference for about a year and realized they would have to do some major fundraising if they wanted to attend.

“You can’t buy tickets, you have to earn them by fundraising or making a change in the community,” she says.

Grade 8 student Hannah Preikschat says they have been able to raise more than $12,000 through various activities.

“We did two bingos and a rummage sale, a ham dinner, a spaghetti lunch, two movie nights, that kind of stuff,” she says.

The students also solicited funds from local mining companies and performed a number of volunteer activities.

While in Saskatoon, the students will also volunteer at the Friendship Inn and learn about equestrian therapy.

About 15,000 youth are expected to attend We Day.
