A few rural areas in northern Saskatchewan will see an increase in their SaskTel network bandwidth by the end of the year.
The Crown corporation recently announced it will be adding capacity to its 4G wireless network in 111 rural communities in the province.
La Ronge, Big River and Onion Lake are among the communities that will see upgrades.
SaskTel spokesperson Tara Tibeau says the high amount of mobile technology on the network has made it difficult to keep up with their current system.
“What we are doing is increasing capacity by doing these engineering enhancements and that will allow the towers to take on a larger load and for the capacity of the area to be improved,” she says. “People were having issues with the current network, so we have to keep adding capacity to keep up.”
Tibeau also says SaskTel customers will not need to subscribe to a different level of service to access the improvements.
