The Office of the Treaty Commissioner is being recognized for its work in the area of education.
The Canadian Race Relations Foundation has chosen the Treaty Curriculum Renewal project, “We Are All Treaty People”, as the 2014 recipient of the award of excellence in the Aboriginal category.
The award recognizes the role the treaty curriculum has played in fostering positive race relations and a better understanding of the treaties.
In 2008, the Saskatchewan government announced the teaching of treaties in the classroom would be mandatory – the first province in Canada to do so.
The award will be presented at the Canadian Race Relations Foundation awards dinner in Ottawa on November 18th.
