Students from St. Mary’s High School in Prince Albert helped kick off another “Red Ribbon” campaign Thursday afternoon.

The red ribbon campaign is put on by the Students Against Drinking and Driving and strives to get people to have a drug and alcohol free holiday season.

Students from the St. Mary’s SADD program spent time putting red ribbons on several different emergency response vehicles in the city to raise awareness about the campaign.

“It’s an awesome program… it’s a great way for the students to be involved in a popular community event,” Director of Public Affairs for the Parkland Ambulance Lyle Karasiuk says. “It really puts a spin on it that the students themselves have an ownership, they are involved, they are supporting the cause, so kudos to the kids for being there to help launch the campaign.”

SADD member Joceline Grezaud says the campaign also puts in to perspective how many people have lost their lives as a result of drinking and driving.

“Every one ribbon can represent ten people who have lost their lives,” she says. “So that puts into perspective the number of people who have lost their lives from drinking and driving and they are never going to get that back.”

Parkland Ambulance, Prince Albert Police and the Prince Albert Fire Department all had vehicles displayed with the red ribbons.
