The Saskatchewan Green Party is calling on the government to intervene on behalf of Marlene Bird.
The 47-year-old Bird had her legs amputated after a severe beating and burning on June 1 in Prince Albert.
The Green Party says Bird’s social workers are failing her and not providing the treatment and supports she needs to recover from the incident.
A recent Saskatoon StarPhoenix article reported Bird is not receiving many of the supports promised to her after she left hospital.
Green Party Leader Victor Lau is urging Premier Brad Wall to step in and fix the situation.
“Well I think it would send a clear message, not only that Premier Wall is concerned about the issue he championed about looking into murdered and missing aboriginal women but also a chance to help an individual that severely needs help,” Lau says. “He can help champion the cause that something is wrong with the governmental system we have and maybe because he is a popular premier he can bring some reform to it.”
Bird attended provincial court on Wednesday where the man accused of attacking her made an appearance.
Twenty-nine-year-old Leslie Black is charged with attempted murder and aggravated sexual assault.
Black is due back in court on Oct. 31.
