The chief of the Buffalo River Dene Nation will not have a criminal record after appearing in court last week.

Lance Byhette was facing one count of assault and another count of being intoxicated on the reserve.

The charges were laid after a disturbance at a home on the reserve last March.

Byhette appeared in Dillon Provincial Court on Oct. 15 and the assault charge was dismissed.

But he was found guilty of a band bylaw charge of being intoxicated on the reserve and was given an absolute discharge during sentencing.

Another member of the Buffalo River band council is facing two counts of assault following another unrelated matter.

Eileen Morrison is scheduled to appear in court next month.
