The Assembly of First Nations is pushing for an extension on the deadline for Indian residential schools personal education credit applications.

It’s a compensation program offered by Ottawa as set out in the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement.

The deadline for former students to apply for the $3,000 credit is midnight Friday.

But the federal government has expressed a willingness to extend the deadline.

The decision to extend the deadline is not yet finalized, as it requires agreement by all parties to the residential school agreement, as well as a court order.

The AFN says more information is expected in early November.
