The inquest into the police shooting death of an Aboriginal man in Prince Albert last year has heard from one of the police officers who shot him.

Cst. Ryan Banadyga said it’s a decision he will have to live with the rest of his life.

Banadyga and a fellow officer fired shots upon 27-year-old Ryan Natomagan-Nelson after he came at one of the officers with a knife.

One of the shots hit Natomagan-Nelson and he later died in hospital.

During testimony this morning, Banadyga said time seemed to speed up and slow down during the incident.

He said although it’s a decision he has to live with, it had to be done to save his fellow officer’s life.
