Twenty-four students from Oskayak High School in Saskatoon will be traveling to Hawaii on Wednesday to learn about Aboriginal culture in another country.

This is the fourth year of the school’s cultural exchange program.

In 2014, the students are headed to Maui.

Randy Morin, a teacher from Oskayak who is accompanying the students, says the trip gives them a chance to learn and teach at the same time.

“We want to exchange our cultural practices with them,” he says. “So we want to sing for them, dance for them, and they’re going to do the same – and, as well, check out local landmarks that are significant and important to them.”

For many of the Aboriginal students, this will be their first trip out of Saskatchewan.

They will spend a total of eight days in Hawaii.
