The grand reopening of the Big River sawmill took place Tuesday.

The facility is the largest of its kind in the province and will employ up to 100 people when at full capacity.

The sawmill has an annual production capacity of 250 million board feet.

Another 250 jobs are also expected to be created through contracts in timber harvesting, trucking, road construction and reforestation.

The Big River operation was shut down in 2006 during the downturn of the province’s forestry sector.

However, Saskatchewan’s forestry industry has experienced a substantial turnaround in the past year.

Seven of 11 mills have been reopened and are at various stages of production.
