One person is recovering in hospital and another is facing charges after a shooting incident at the Ahtahkakoop First Nation.

Tuesday night, RCMP were called to a home on the reserve and found a 41-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the “pelvic area”.

The victim was taken to Shellbrook Hospital and then transferred to Saskatoon.

One person was arrested at the scene and faces five charges including aggravated assault and careless use of a firearm.

RCMP officers had been at the home just 20 minutes earlier to investigate an assault complaint involving the suspect and the victim — but Mounties left the scene after being assured that the situation had been resolved.

59-year-old Stephen Masuskapoe is scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court today.
