Officials from Charlebois School in Cumberland House are calling on the province to take action on poor road conditions in the area.
On Sunday evening, a group of students heading back to the community from Saskatoon were stranded on Highway 123 after their school bus went off the road and into a ditch.
Vice Principal Aaron Fosseneube says the bus encountered problems around the 30-kilometre mark and things went from bad to worse after that.
He says no one was injured and fortunately another driver came by to offer assistance but, either way, something has to change.
“The roads are just not up to par as always is the case and the road is just the worst I have seen it in years, even worse than the flood especially in that particular area,” he says.
Fosseneube adds he has been told the poor road conditions are also affecting medical trips.
“I heard that the ambulance is not even going to come on that road anymore so now they have to fly out everybody, on a highway that pretty much belongs to the ministry, so the ministry needs to get on that case right off the bat.”
Fosseneube says he was told a semi-unit was stuck on Highway 123 Monday morning so anyone traveling to the Cumberland House area must use caution and watch for other vehicles.
