There were no injuries Tuesday morning at the La Ronge Airport after a twin engine turboprop aircraft owned by Transwest Air experienced problems with its landing gear.

The incident was reported around 11 a.m. when a Beech King Air had taken off for Flin Flon and the pilot reported there might be a problem.

Peter Hildebrand, a spokesperson for the Transportation Safety Board in Winnipeg, says the pilot then returned to Barber Field.

“And did as couple of fly pasts at the facility there to see if the position of the gear could be verified,” he says. “It seemed to be down so the aircraft landed and as it was slowing down and rolling down the runway, one of the landing gears retracted, that is the right main landing gear retracted, the aircraft came to a stop on the runway.”

Hildebrand says the underside of the plane was damaged and approval was given to raise the plane and remove it from the runway.

The plane was carrying two crew members and three passengers.

Transwest Air would not comment on the nature of the flight.
